Memorial Day

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I know that today was supposed to be about remembering those who have gone on before us; especially the veterans are nation has lost over the years, but it’s hard to do that with two children screaming and crying at the top of their lungs. I’m sorry, but I’m all about being open and honest on this blog.

Needless to say, the start of our day was rough. I did get the opportunity, though, to be woken up to the sound of some fighter jets flying over our house for a Memorial Day parade somewhere nearby.

It was our plan to go on a hike at Minto Brown Island Park and cast a line into the sloughs of the Willamette River every once and a while along our way. It was our plan to get out of the house before 11AM. That didn’t happen.

24 Hour Fitness Workouts, Victoria Johnson Ab Labs, Showers, breast feeding, temper tantrums, nursing pads, dirty diapers, potty breaks, boogey boards in the fire place, animal cookies, and Craigslist…yes Craigslist all got in the way of us leaving on time.

Last night I put a few things on Craigslist and I surprised…very surprised. Things as insignificant as aWoodburning Jr Tool for $3 and an Electric Engraver from the 1970s for $5 got numerous emails with people competing for who could get their hot little hands on them. I had two larger items out the door by noon…on a holiday?

We finally got out the door around 2:00 PM and had a great time at Minto Brown with my wife, my kids, and my dad…he joined us as well. We walked far and saw frogs, blue herons, tadpoles, and snakes. We tried a little fishing, but the weeds were too high in the water. I did find some great paddling spots that I need to tell Bo about.

The day ended nicely with a BBQ with our friends Bobby and Tiffany and Tiffany’s brother Eric. And it is ending even nicer with my daughter Kylie smiling and laughing at me when I tell her that I love her.

Good Night.
