Is Home Where Your Stuff Is?

While we were in the process of moving about two months ago, we brought ALL of our stuff to our new home in Southern Oregon, then headed back up to Salem to finish my job as youth pastor.
During those nearly 2 weeks, we stayed with our parents. It was nice, but something was missing…our stuff.
Even though we were in our hometown where we had lived all of our lives and were with all of our family and friends, we were feeling very homesick.
We wondered why and we realized that it was becasue none of our stuff was with us and it made us feel very out of place. The old saying goes, “Home Is Where The Heart Is”. Our heart was in both places, but we sure didn’t feel like home in Salem.
Home, stragely enough, for the time being was where I stuff was.
Jesus said,” Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” I don’t believe that Susan and I are overly materialistic, but it bugged me to know that we were feeling homesick because we weren’t with all of our stuff.
I don’t know, maybe it was for other more Godly reasons: like we didn’t feel at home becasue God had called us to Southern Oregon. But I don’t think so. I think it was for selfish-materialistic-greedy reasons.
Lord, make my treasure you, not something temporary on earth. May you lead me wherevedr you will without thought of comfort or materialism.
