Who To Hold Accountable
I met with a friend last week who shared with me how he had been led astray into a cult that has recently moved into Salem and has taken over the airwaves of one of the only “Christian” radio stations in the area.
The stories that he told me were horid to say the least. He told me accounts of polygamy, drunkeness, after-service brawls, lust encouragement, Judiasing, Sabbath Day Zealousness, public church discipline for buying ice tea on Saturday, vulgarity, a call to leave the Christian Church, an exclusive pastor-written translation of the Bible sold and read from at the church, etc…the descriptions were UNBELIEVABLE.
Finally after having a strange thought cross his mind that he didn’t “need Jesus” anymore, he realized that he had been completely led astray and left this heresy breeding ground.
I’ve shared this with some of my friends in ministry and we are furious that one of our brothers and friends was led astray by this “church” and the egomaniacle monster who leads it. We instantly wanted to do something to stop such false propigation of a different gospel- one that was not ‘good news’ at all.
So what do you think should be done? Should pastors in the area unite to Biblically confront this church and it’s pastor? Should an article be submitted to local newspapers and magazines to expose the darkness taking place in the name of ‘Yeshua’ (what they zealously and exclusively call Jesus)? Should people picket this church to stop people from having their brains washed? Or would all these things further their cause as they would surely claim martyrdom?
I cannot rest knowing someone is presenting a false gospel in my community- but I guess people have for years and are doing so all over the world. I reluctantly agree that our government institutions should allow for freedom of (all) religion, but it bugs me to no end when those other religions claim to be Christians when in fact they’re far from it. This gives all Christians a bad name and create another stumbling block for people to encounter when introduced to the real Gospel.
