Be The Answer
I may be the last person to be able to write this with authority, but it’s been on my heart nonetheless.
Sometimes, as Christians, we pray for the most ridiculous things. Someone doesn’t have food, someone is being kicked out of their apartment, a single mom doesn’t have someone to take care of her child while she works.
And what do we do? We offer to pray for them?! Sometimes we don’t even offer. Sometimes we say a magic prayer under our breath without ever telling the person we prayed for.
Praying is good. It’s the way we communicate with God. The Bible says to,” Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you.” So there’s no such thing as I bad prayer.
And if we’re the one without food, or the one getting kicked out of our apartment, or the single mom who has no one to watch our kids; then we pray with wreckless abandon for God to intervene on our behalf.
But what if we’re not the one in crisis? What if we’re the one who knows of someone in crisis? What if you’re the one praying these people? Is praying always the best solotuin?
Sometimes, we need to realize that when we pray, that we need to not only speak, but listen.
Sometimes, we need to realize that WE are already the answer to our own prayers. Sometimes when someone else doesn’t have food, they don’t need us to pray for them, they need us to give them food! Sometimes, when someone is being kicked out of their apartment, they don’t need us to pray for them, they us to open our homes to them. Sometimes, when a single mom needs someone to watch their kids so she can work, she doesn’t need us to pray for her, she needs us to watch her kids free of charge for her.
So ask yourself- and God- next time you pray,” Am I the answer?”
