Hungry for…
The world has so much to offer. Some of what it has to offer is not bad at all: great music, entertaining television and film, exotic adventurous vacations, and beautiful art. The Bible says that every good and perfect gift is from above. So those good and redeemable things the world has to offer actually spring forth from God and His good creation.
But despite all of the great things available for man to enjoy, and even the deceptively good evil things people still hunger something else all together.
That’s where the Word of God comes in. For something that the world thinks is fairy tale and irrelevant, it’s always amazing to see itself prove true that it will not return void and that is alive and active, sharper than any two-edged sword!
People are hungry for the Word of God. When someone encounters it, despite their religious background, I believe it cuts right through their heart and reveals itself as Truth. I’ve seen it happen, someone who wants nothing to do with the God of the Bible, once they encounter it are drawn irresistably into relationship with Him.
Salvation comes by grace alone through faith alone. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing the Word of God.
And when I stand up to preach and teach the Word of God with passion and humility it is always amazing to see people’s hunger (sometimes one they didn’t even know they had) fulfilled. It amazing to see their eyes opened and to see them absorb God’s Truth into their hearts more exitedly than the would the greatest movie or the most beautiful song.
People are hungry for the Word of God. We as Christians, particularly those of us with the spiritual gift of teaching, must find a way to engage them with the Gospel…and God will do the rest.
