How to Know if it’s the Spirit

How To Know if What You’re Being Led By (the voice you’re hearing or the thing you’re feeling) is the Spirit:

1. Does what you’re being led to do line up with the entirety of Scripture? If not (i.e. It’s ok to have sex with your married friend), then it’s not the Spirit.

2. Pray about it. If you feel like it lines up with Scripture, ask God to reveal to you whether or not it’s Him.

3. Seek advice. Ask someone more mature spiritually than you what they think. An outsiders perspective on a situation is priceless.

4. Glorification. Does what you’re being led to do bring glory to God, or you. If you; it’s probably not the Spirit. If it doesn’t bring glory to God; it’s definitely not the Spirit.

5. Easiness. The Spirit rarely leads people to do easy things. Usually they are hard things that cause us to rely strongly, not only on His leading, but also His power. If it’s something that doesn’t challenge or stretch you, there’s a good chance it’s not the Spirit.
