Be Here Now

Today I heard of a young mother of 6 who tragically died as a result of a freak rafting accident. My heart breaks for her, her husband, her family, but especially for her children.

Sometimes there seems to be no reason, there are no answers, and there is little that can be said or done to ease the pain, anger, and mourning. BUT, God is still good; has defeated Satan, sin, hell, and death; and will one day restore all things to His glorious order.

The last few days, I have been feeling a little down, a little depressed, and have been really hard on myself. This self-pittied-focus can draw your attention away from ceasing the moment and the circumstances you’ve been blessed with.

A manager of a job I once had asked all of his employees, while they were at work, to “be here now” in order to be able to focus on the customer and give them the best service possible.

We are not promised tomorrow. We don’t know which day will be our last. And as cheesy as it sounds, we really ought to live every day like it could be our last (because it really could be) and choose to “be here now” for each person we come into contact with- not letting the distractions of our mind take away the devoted time others need from us.

Thinking and a lifestyle like that would drastically change our relationships, our jobs, our families, and our world.
