Running Into The New Year.

I started the New Year with a 3 mile run in the pouring down rain. The wind and the rain whipped acrossed my face as I pushed my body away from home and back.
It was torture, it was invigorating, it was worship.
As I began to think of the New Year, thoughts began to flood my inner ears- that’s that whose possesion I do not know.
The Words wrang through my mind as the rain beat on my face:
“2010 will be a year in which I am most glorified in you!”
“2010 will be a year in which My Kingdom will be advanced like never before in your community!”
“This will be a year in which you will grow more intimate with your family!”
“2010 will be a year that your community will be served like never before.”
I don’t want to say that this was prophecy for sure, because I am not sure. But I do know that the thoughts and words that echoed through my soul were not unBiblical and would certainly be pleasing to God if they came to fruition.
As I meditated on these words I realized that in order for these things to happen- for God to be glorified, for His Kingdom to be advanced, for my family to grow more intimate with each other, and for my community to be served like neve before- that I will have to be ‘most satisfied’ in Him.
I am scared and I am excited. So be it Lord. Let this be a crazy year all about you!

Why?

Anyone who knows me well knows that I can get very fascinated with the unexplained. This isn’t something that I talk about much with people who I don’t know well or from the pulpit because interest in such things could- ounfortuneately- cause me to lose credibility.
But if it involves Bigfoot, aliens, or secret government conspiracy; I can turn into a geek real fast.
But whether or no I believe in such things or the theological implications in doing so is for another post.
My thought for the day is “why?”
If there really are aliens coming to earth on intergalactic spaceships; and if they fly around our planet so overtly- seemingly not caring wether we know they’re here are not-then why?
If they are so much more technically advanced than us,’then why are they coming? What makes us, or our planet, so much more special than where they come from?
Are they curious? Or are they in need of a resource we posses?
This question is just as important as “are they coming?”. Because there is no ‘are’ if there is no ‘why’.
Weird? Yeah, I know. But this post was written with 4 new episodes of UFO Hunters, a pecular dream the night before; and the series premier of V.
And after all;” no question is a stupid question.”

Knowing ( Warning! Spoiler Alert!)

Last night I watched the movie ‘Knowing’ for the first time. Everyone I talked to about the film warned me that it was a good movie with a horrible ending. But I watched it anyways, and I loved it!
I don’t want to over-explain the movie, but there are a few important details to- very loosely- explain.
The story involves two children who are linked by a 50 year-old paper written by a young girl and found in a time capsule. The paper has a strange series of numbers on it that is revealed to contain prophecies of every major disaster over the last 50 years. Both of these children have strange encounters with myserious men in black and hear whispering jibberish in their heads.
To make a long story short, the men in black that are whispering in their heads end up being angels who have come to take the two children before the world ends in fiery destruction.
The writer tries to base everything in the movie on faith and , loosely, on the Bible. Many of the movie’s events are tied to Ezekiels prophecy of the ‘wheel within a wheel’.
The story also reflects that of the rapture. At the end you find out that there are multiple people escorted from the earth before it’s destroyed in fire. The angels tell the children that they are being taken to help start ‘everything over’ which hints of a new heaven and a new earth. And for some strange reason the children are even given white rabbits as pets to take with them- which I believe signifies reproduction on the new earth.
The movie was in no way theologically correct: No mention was made of Jesus. It was not the saved who were escorted off the earth to start-over, but children. It was implied that everyone will go to ‘heaven’ after they die. It suggested that those saved from the earth’s fiery destruction will be engaged in being ‘fruitful and multiplying’. Etc…..
So I’m not implying that this film was Biblically sound, but there was an element to it that I found so beautiful! It was fanciful imagination and mystery: The angels were mysterious men who could project blinding light from their mouths. The children were escorted from the planet in beautiful revolving crystal-like space ships (the wheel within a wheel). The future was encoded in numbers foretold long ago. Everything worked for a purpose and to build up to an ultimate crescendo. It took amazing events to bring about forgiveness and faith in the main character’s heart. A seemingly mentally deranged woman was used as God’s messenger….etc….
But what I found to be most beautiful was the film’s final scene. It involved the two children being placed on the new earth. The scenery on this planet was breathtaking! They were placed in a field with magical-looking grass that was tossed wonderfully back and forth in a gentle breeze. The children were dressed in lovely white linens. As they looked up from the ground from which they were placed, they saw in front of them a huge tree with hints of white flowers budding all around it. As they layed their eyes on its splendor, they ran for it with wreckless abandon. This tree was very obviously the Tree of Life.
The reason I enjoyed this film so much, particularly this scene, was because we who are Christians can make things seem so dull and boring- so black and white with no shades of grey or vibrant color. We tend to have everything neatly packed into categories of theology and religion, which often causes us to never look out of the box we have created for God and ourselves.
Now don’t get me wrong. As Christians, it is VERY important what we believe. Theology is at the very root of who we are and what we do. But the Bible is filled with such beautiful metaphor and imagery and we act sometimes as if we have everything figured out and that there will be no surprises along the way. But I think when we see Jesus face to face, we will be surprised at how narrow our minds were and how big and beautiful God and his creation has been all along!
Yes we should read the Bible for the truth that it contains. Yes their is a central message and mission of the Word of God. But we must realize that God is SO HUGE and our miniscule finite human minds will never have Him completely figured out or tamed. God has revealed Himself to us, but there is SO much mystery within Him. And for us to make Him boring and into a system of ’1+1=2′ is a big mistake.
Set your feet in a firm foundation. Embrace beauty. Ponder mystery. And fantasize about the God who is too big for your mind and the world to come because it will be wonderful!

Men with Skirts

This is a growing trend in the Pacific Northwest: Big men wearing kilts out in public.

This pic was taken secret agent-style under a Taco Bell booth. I was afraid William Wallace and his men were going to break through the doors and challenge this man to a broad sword battle. Let’s hope this big dude was wearing underwear.

A New Toy!

So I have a new blogging tool. I used some money that I earned from selling some stuff on Craigslist to purchase a new underwater digital camera for Father’s Day. This sucker can withstand temperatures or -14 degrees F, a 5 foot drop onto concrete, and 10 feet underwater. It is also really small so I can take it anywhere to take pics on the go, especially for this site. It will be great just in case I see a UFO or Bigfoot while driving or on a walk- I’ll have my trusty cam with me to take the pic- LOL!

My wife thinks I’ll lose this camera within two months. We’ll see!

EARTHQUAKE!!!

So last night i had an extraordinarily vivid dream.

In the dream I opened up my laptop and went to the Fox News Website. At the same time I was watching tv. On tv was, again, the Fox New Channel. On tv they were reporting some kind of devastating fires in the Los Angeles area.

While I was watching that story on the news, the Fox News Website’s Home Page changed with a breaking news story. The entire Home Page was covered with a picture that looked exactly as the one does that I created for this post.

The television news changed to this story immediately after seeing the image on my computer. And although I didn’t read the story on the internet and I couldn’t hear the story on the television in my dream; I knoew what had happened for some strange reason.

There had been two devastating earthquales in the Los Angeles area. One was somewhere between Downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach. It registered as a 6.1 on the Rictor Scale. The other one was somewhere in the South-Central portion of Orange County South of Irvine and Lake Forest. It registered as a massive 8.1 on the Rictor Scale.

It was unclear if one of the quakes was an aftershock to the other, but it was believed that they were two seperate quakes that happened nearly simultaneiusly. All I know is that they were completely devastating and there was no news feeds coming out the area at the time I was watching. I had this very forboding feeling in the dream that there was a possibillity of part of Southern California breaking off into the Pacific Ocean.

Last week I had a dream that we were near Disneyland, but couldn’t continue our trip there because of massive riots and an enormous fire accompanied by explosions happening near the anaheim area.

I am in no way saying that I am a prophet or that the Lord gave me this dream. Sometimes dreams do have a tendancy to be a warning about a future event though- the story of Joseph anyone? I am just saying that it was a very weird and vivid dream that seemed as if it was something that was going to happen and I woke up fearful both times. I just decided to post it here on my blog in case something really did happen. That way there would be record and proof of it.

But I certainly hope none of these things happen. I guess all I can do is pray- and maybe that’s why I had the dream.
